Postgraduate degree programs in Animal sciences

The Postgraduate degree programs in Animal sciences is organized in two curricula:

The educational/training objectives of the curriculum in Livestock production chain and product quality include the development of livestock production chain experts, which skills include a solid background and comprehension in livestock production and production of food of animal origin, completing the knowledge acquired during the university first degree. Postgraduates will be able to use international literature, and the background acquired during this course will include several innovative topics in livestock production. Postgraduate students will acquire deep knowledge and comprehension skills concerning livestock production processes, sustainable management of livestock production, animal genetic biodiversity and quality of products of animal origin.

The learning methods and tools used to attain and validate the above mentioned goals will include classic lectures, seminars, international literature analysis, study of recommended literature, and lab and field practical activities followed by data analysis. Final exams at the end of each course will be organized to assess knowledge and comprehension of course program topics. Further evaluation methods, such as oral and written exams and interim learning assessment, can be planned for specific topics.

The learning program of the curriculum in Livestock production chain and product quality will allow the postgraduate in animal sciences to develop interdisciplinary skills, which are required to work proficiently with different professional figures in the livestock production chain. In particular, the skills that will be developed in the curriculum in Livestock production chain and product quality curriculum will include:

  • organization of individual and group work in livestock production and production of food of animal origin contexts,
  • interpretation of law and regulations, development and implementation of projects at both livestock business and political level, aiming to improve or adapt livestock production performance and structure,
  • regulation of livestock production procedures associated with environmental impact and quality of products, including ability to identify flaws and causes and to propose solutions,
  • development of technical presentations.

Knowledge and comprehension skills will be developed through practical activities in class, laboratory and livestock facilities, case study, internship in livestock facilities and with professionals of livestock production. Moreover, specific courses will guide students to use innovative professional software. Finally, an important learning step will consist data management and interpretation for thesis development and final evaluation.

Assessment of skills concerning knowledge application will be done through evaluation, also during final exams, of practical lessons written reports, of case study and internship reports, of individual or group project development, and of final thesis preparation under supervision of teaching staff.

The final learning step will include optional courses, internship period and development of a research final thesis.

The educational/training objectives of the curriculum in Animal nutrition and feed safety include the development of animal nutrition experts, which skills include a solid background and comprehension in animal feeding and nutrition, completing the knowledge acquired during the university first degree. Postgraduates will be able to use international literature, and the background acquired during this course will include several innovative topics in animal nutrition. Postgraduate students will acquire deep knowledge and comprehension skills concerning both physiological mechanisms associated with animal nutrition and sustainable management of animal and feed production, in order to guarantee feed quality and security.

The learning methods and tools used to attain and validate the above mentioned goals will include classic lectures, seminars, international literature analysis, study of recommended literature, and lab and field practical activities followed by data analysis.
